Process

How it is made

The preparation is made in Japan in a short, documented sequence: raw materials are charged and dissolved, emulsified and dried into granules, then filled into 1 kg aluminium bags and packed. Dihydrocapsiate content, moisture, appearance, foreign matter, arsenic, moulds, yeasts and coliforms are tested on every lot; heavy metals and total plate count twice a year, at the first production of each half-year.

Dihydrocapsiate is an ester with low water solubility and limited stability. In this preparation it is combined with medium-chain triglycerides, emulsified into a carbohydrate base and dried to granules. The finished granules stay refrigerated at 10 °C or below from production to delivery, and a 20 g retained sample of every lot is kept for 5 years.

Buyer's checklist

What to ask any supplier

If you are comparing ingredients for a new SKU, these questions separate one material from another quickly.

Does your market allow dihydrocapsiate in your product category?

Rules for capsinoids differ by market. In some markets dihydrocapsiate is authorised only for listed food categories with maximum levels, and food supplements may need a separate assessment. Confirm the status for your finished product before you order.

Is polysorbate 60 within your finished-product limit?

The granules contain 0.8% polysorbate 60, about 2.9 mg in 360 mg of granules. Check the limit that applies to your product category.

Can you keep the cold chain?

Storage and transport are specified at 10 °C or below. Plan refrigerated freight and cold storage on arrival; we quote refrigerated freight on request.

What will your label say about the source?

The specification lists isomalt, dextrin, medium-chain triglycerides and dihydrocapsiate, with sugar beet, cassava and palm among the source materials. If you plan a natural or pepper claim, ask us to confirm the origin statement for the active first.

Can you share destination, application and volume?

Export orders are confirmed case by case. Telling us the destination market, the product type and the expected annual volume at the inquiry stage shortens the quotation.

Which documents does your importer need?

We share the specification and SDS before you order, and the lot CoA travels with the goods. Halal and other certificates are not part of our documents for this product, so raise them at the quotation stage.

A non-pungent capsinoid in an easy-to-dose granule

Capsinoids are the non-pungent relatives of capsaicin, the compound that makes chilli hot. This preparation delivers one of them, dihydrocapsiate, at 2.3-2.8% in white granules, so a formulator works with a few hundred milligrams of material instead of handling the active in single-milligram amounts. The producer relates 360 mg of the preparation to 9 mg of capsinoid.

Where it fits

The producer labels the granules as a food material for processed foods. Typical formats for a low-dose granular active:

  • Capsules and tablets
  • Stick packs and powdered drink mixes
  • Other processed foods, within local rules on capsinoids and polysorbate 60

Plan for the cold chain

The specification requires storage and transport at 10 °C or below and gives a shelf life of 4 years from manufacture. Refrigerated freight and cold storage on arrival belong in the plan before the first order.

What capsinoids are

Capsinoids are a family of compounds from Capsicum peppers. Chemically they are esters of vanillyl alcohol with fatty acids, while capsaicinoids, the pungent compounds of chilli, are amides of vanillylamine with branched-chain fatty acids. Capsiate is described as a non-pungent analogue of capsaicin, and research on capsinoids centres on the same receptor, TRPV1 (review, Crit Rev Food Sci Nutr 2022). Dihydrocapsiate, the active in this preparation, belongs to this family.

Where capsinoids come from

Capsiate has been extracted from several Capsicum species, notably sweet peppers, and has also been made by a number of chemical and enzymatic synthesis routes (same review). For this preparation, the specification lists dihydrocapsiate as an ingredient alongside its carrier materials and names sugar beet, cassava and palm among the source materials.

Why capsinoids are supplied as a preparation

The same review names low water solubility and limited stability as the main formulation challenges for capsiate. A preparation addresses both on the handling side: the active is carried in medium-chain triglycerides, emulsified into a carbohydrate base, dried to granules and kept refrigerated, so it can be weighed and blended like any other powder ingredient.

What research has looked at

Brown adipose tissue (BAT) is a heat-producing fat tissue. It contains uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1), is regulated by thyroid hormones and the sympathetic nervous system, and has been located in the supraclavicular, subclavian and thoracic spine regions of adults by PET-CT imaging. A 2023 review discusses capsinoids among the agents studied in BAT research and calls for further investigation (Diabetes Metab Res Rev 2023). Human research on capsinoids has been pooled in several meta-analyses:

  • A systematic review and meta-analysis of 13 placebo-controlled trials in healthy adults that measured resting metabolic rate, respiratory quotient and fat oxidation after capsaicinoids or capsinoids; the authors call for further high-quality studies (Phytother Res 2021).
  • A dose-response meta-analysis of 13 randomised trials of capsinoid supplements with 838 participants that measured body composition and anthropometric indices; the authors call for larger and longer trials (Clin Nutr ESPEN 2022).
  • A meta-analysis of 14 studies with 183 participants on capsaicin or capsiate and endurance exercise, in which most studies gave 12 mg about 45 minutes before exercise (Nutrients 2022).

Amounts used in studies

Capsinoid studies work in milligrams of active. The producer relates 360 mg of this preparation to 9 mg of capsinoid. At the 2.3-2.8% specification, 9 mg of dihydrocapsiate corresponds to about 320-390 mg of granules, and the 12 mg used in most endurance studies to about 430-520 mg.

Regulatory note

The status of capsinoids differs by market. In some markets dihydrocapsiate is authorised only for listed food categories with maximum levels, and food supplements may need a separate assessment. Confirm the status and permitted wording for your finished product with your regulatory adviser before launch. This section describes capsinoids and published research in general; it is not a claim about any finished product.

FAQ

Before you order

What are capsinoid granules?

A food-grade preparation of dihydrocapsiate, a non-pungent capsinoid, standardized to 2.3-2.8% by HPLC on every lot. The specification lists isomalt, dextrin, medium-chain triglycerides and dihydrocapsiate, with modified starch, citric acid and polysorbate 60 (0.8%). The granules are white, produced in Japan and packed in 1 kg aluminium bags.

What are the MOQ, price and lead time?

The minimum order is 10 kg, one carton of ten 1 kg bags, at 1,150 USD/kg; larger volumes are quoted by volume and refrigerated freight is quoted on request. Export orders are confirmed case by case for destination market and application. Goods ship from Japan 1-1.5 weeks after payment when stock is available; otherwise timing is confirmed in your quotation. Payment is 100% prepayment by SWIFT or Stripe.

How much of the preparation matches the amounts used in studies?

The producer relates 360 mg of the preparation to 9 mg of capsinoid. At the 2.3-2.8% specification, 9 mg of dihydrocapsiate corresponds to about 320-390 mg of granules, and the 12 mg used in most endurance studies to about 430-520 mg. The dose and wording for your product depend on the rules of your market.

How must it be stored and shipped?

Refrigerated at 10 °C or below, both in storage and in transport. Shelf life is 4 years from manufacture. Plan refrigerated freight and cold storage on arrival; we quote refrigerated freight with your order.

What should I check before using it in my formula?

Three things. First, the status of dihydrocapsiate in your market and product category. Second, the polysorbate 60 limit: the granules contain 0.8%, about 2.9 mg in 360 mg. Third, label wording on the source: the specification lists sugar beet, cassava and palm among the source materials, so confirm the origin statement for the active with us before making a natural or pepper claim. The specification and SDS are available before you order.
